Out to Pasture Senior Horse Feed

$29.10

Senior horses often need the most nutritious feed we can get into them just to keep them in good shape. A shiny old horse makes us smile. They have earned an easy life and we want to make their later years as comfortable as we can. This often means accommodating their less efficient digestive systems, their changing needs and their aged teeth.

Their feed needs to be super digestible so that they get every bit of nutrition out of it. It needs to be easy to eat without counting on efficient chewing. It needs to dissolve rapidly when eaten and make a mash easily when fed wet. Vitamins are even more important for aged horses because they may not absorb them well, so supplementation is more critical than at any time since their youth.

Union Point Custom Feeds Out to Pasture is both tasty and wholesome; it’s processed in the most digestible way possible. It has optimal levels of vitamins, minerals, probiotics and prebiotics. It contains none of the inflammatory ingredients we avoid when refusing genetically modified ingredients. That’s why there is no sugar beet pulp, soy or corn in it. Those crops are nearly all genetically modified to do damage to the bugs that would eat them. What might they do to our horses when they eat those same toxins?

Here at Union Point we make our feeds with carefully chosen ingredients that meet our strict standards. They must be fresh, free of mold and dust, tasty, locally grown if possible (and never from overseas), and not genetically modified with toxins. We track ingredients with a paper trail that ensures traceability for food and feed safety. Our owner-nutritionist then combines them in a way that maximizes their digestibility and helps the animals perform their best. Our goal is to produce the best feed as efficiently as we can so that every feed dollar buys your animal the maximum nutrition. Less manure is a nice benefit, too.

We start with whole grains and seeds, grind them and mix them with healthy vitamins, minerals, and healthy additives like brewer’s yeast and Redmond trace mineral salt. We add direct-fed microbials (6 strains of beneficial bacteria), chelated minerals for better absorption, selenium yeast (of course) and digestive enzymes to make the feed more efficient with less metabolic effort. We’ve added biotin and other B vitamins needed at higher levels for older horses. Vitamins A, C, D, and E are in higher levels than needed for younger animals, but well within safety limits. We then compress it into dust-free pellets with our cool-steam processes, preserving the vitamins, prebiotics and probiotics.

We count on steam-rolled oats, peas, pumpkin flesh and seeds, wheat germ and wheat bran for our main ingredients, bicarb to avoid ulcers, oat syrup for sweetness and camelina oil for Omega 3s. There are no fillers and none of the inflammatory properties we associate with GMO ingredients.

We are sticklers for freshness and that’s why we put the date of manufacture right on the bag. For horses who have served us well, here’s a great way to keep them happy, healthy and GMO-free without breaking the bank. They have earned it.
