Easy Keeper Horse Feed
Easy Keeper refers to those horses that have it pretty easy. They’re in retirement, serving as pets, or just seem to get chunky (you know a horse like this). They still need vitamins and minerals (especially selenium), hopefully without spending a lot of time or money.
These lucky horses expect to get grain just like the other horses, and they can be brats about it, demanding equal eating opportunities. But they can get fat, founder, or bounce off the walls if they are fed the same high glycemic index grains and easily digested carbohydrates as the Thoroughbred in the next stall gets.
Our Easy Keeper feed is tasty and wholesome, has vitamins and minerals and contains none of the inflammatory ingredients we are avoiding by feeding non-GMO feeds. It is made with carefully chosen ingredients that meet our strict standards. They must be fresh, free of mold and dust, good tasting, preferably locally grown, domestic and non-GMO. We track our ingredients with a paper trail that ensures traceability for feed safety.
We start with whole grains and seeds, grind them and mix them with vitamins and minerals and healthy additives like brewer’s yeast, probiotics and Redmond trace mineral salt. We make a dust-free pellet using whole grains and seeds that are ground and then formed into pellets in our cold steam machinery. We don’t need binders. Then we mix the pellets with our signature chopped pumpkin seed, green and yellow peas for crunch and protein, rolled oats, high Omega-3 camelina meal and a touch of natural maple flavor.
We don’t use any fillers– that’s the job of the forage you feed. Keep in mind that some of the most common fillers in commercially milled feeds include soybean hulls, beet pulp and forage byproducts. That’s a lot of GMOs right there in the soy and the beets, and who knows what else may there?
